IR LED or Infrared Illuminators are lighting devices that emit light in the Infrared Spectrum. IR or Infrared Light is visible to True Day Night Security Cameras (using an IR Cut Filter) and those with a monochrome image sensor. This IR illumination allows what is often referred to as night vision surveillance and is useful for a number of applications. Today, it is highly common to find IR LEDs alongside or integrated into modern security and surveillance cameras. The technology has continued to increase in popularity plus diversity, year after year and is now the primary means of infrared lighting in security. Even the most affordable cameras can often be found with built-in night vision, however in many cases on-board Infrared is less than adequate to properly illuminate the scene. This isn't necessarily true in all cases, yet one thing is certain, a dedicated IR unit will almost always provide a superior ability to illuminate than those with solutions using on-board LEDs. Furthermore, specific installation and project requirements can create objectives that need careful selection of IR type, range and intelligence. Infrared illumination is used in other tactical or specialized applications, yet is mostly deployed in video security and surveillance systems.
Infrared IR Illuminator Technology:
Infrared Illumination are as previously mentioned, mostly today built on LED technology. Other forms of producing infrared night vision or IR illumination has been the past use of halogen style bulbs and to the future with Laser IR solutions now sold. There are two major classes of IR Illuminators, those that are Semi-Covert and typically near the 850nm wavelength and then those that deliver truly Invisible IR or totally covert illumination near 940nm for certain tactical advantage. Numerous sizes, shapes and styles are manufactured and the devices include long range to ultra-wide angle coverage. Advanced units provide multiple IR beam positions in a single unit while other options from PoE power input to RS-485 control are all being produced. Indoor to outdoor weatherproof design plus vandal rated models and extreme operating temperatures, there is few places an IR LED Illuminator cannot go. Added innovations such as web browser control to I/O synchronization enable optimal video surveillance and security system image clarity. Well deployed IR Illumination has been proven to reduce bandwidth and storage file size by increasing the efficiency of clear image capture and reducing compression needs.
